Dear Colleagues -
As you will have gathered from recent emails, DCU is currently
participating in an EU-funded project investigating the
establishment of a Europe-wide quality mark for web
accessibility. Arising from that, we now want to recruit an
additional person to work specifically on this project. I attach
a outline description of the job below.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could bring this to the
attention of any potential candidates you may know. Anybody
interested in the position should contact me directly in the
first instance, via email to <barry.mcmullin at dcu.ie>.
Many thanks,
- Barry.

Research Officer: Web Accessibility Quality Mark
Outline Job Description (DRAFT: 23-Feb-2005)
The eAccessibility lab at DCU currently has an opening for a
Research Officer to work on an EU funded project,
Support-EAM. The project is concerned with exploring the
technical, organisational and commercial feasibility of a
Europe-wide "quality mark" for accessibility of web sites to
users with disabilities and elderly users. Full details of the
project are available at:
http://www.support-eam.org/
The Research Officer will be expected to contribute to all
aspects of the project. This will include participating in
technical task-forces, investigating technical evaluation and
remediation of web accessibility issues, contibuting to authoring
reports, logging and tracking project administrative information
etc. There will also be a role in organising and delivering
dissemination and training activities and events for various
audiences. The successful candidate should have a strong
technical background in web development, preferably including a
degree in a relevant discipline, and have relevant commercial or
research experience. The candidate should have specific
experience and knowledge of the W3/WAI web accessibility
guidelines, particularly WCAG 1.0, and the emerging WCAG 2.0
drafts. The Support-EAM project involves close liaison with
various WAI working groups.
The post will be a fixed term contract, strictly limited to the
term of the EU project funding, which is due to complete in March
2006. Ideally it will be a full-time appointment, though there
may be some flexibility in this, depending on the calibre and
qualifications of the candidates. Salary will be commensurate
with the experience and qualifications of the successful
candidate.
The eAccessibility lab is part of the National Research Centre in
Networks and Communications Engineering (RINCE) at DCU. Full
background on the lab is available at:
http://eaccess.rince.ie/
In the first instance, potential candidates are invited to
directly contact the director of the eAccess lab to discuss the
post and register their interest:
