Report from ICT - Expo
Visitors
The first day was quiet with 12-14 visitors, the second day was much busier, with 25 to 30 visitors. There were a number of groups interested in Irl-DeAN. There were developers (web / software) who were interested in accessibility, some organisations that were interested in carrying out accessibility work on their websites, and members of the public who had an interest in what software and hardware was available for people with disabilities. The Irish Developers network was also interested.
Changes
The initial plan was to have presentations at the stand 3 times daily, but this proved not to be practical at the show. Instead, visitors were introduced to the Design for All one to one.
A number of changes were made to the stand between Wednesday and Thursday. We used more powerful speakers, and relied more on demonstrations of Assistive Technology to draw people in . This proved successful, and more people came to the stand.
If we decide to do this again next year, we can begin planning at an earlier date.
Overall
The aim of the taking the stand was to encourage interest in the area of e-Accessibility. As a result, we have a number of new members, as well as approaches by a few organisations who are interested in implementing accessibility. Thank you to everyone who helped with materials for the stand, especially Fiona, Henry, Sean and Matthew, it really enhanced what we were doing.
Any comments or questions are welcome.
