For anybody that is interested, while I dont, and have never, used Flash,
that Hickson method for embedding Flash came about as a result (as far as I
can understand) from a method called Flash Satay
(http://www.alistapart.com/articles/flashsatay/) to overcome the
limitations of achieving valid HTML. As with many "hacks" there would
appear to be some limitations. There is a very interesting discussion
archived on Drew McLellan's (the "inventor" of Flash Satay) website at
http://www.allinthehead.com/retro/234/ including links to other interesting
solutions.
