Hi all, Dónal Rice here.

Work first:
I work with the National Disability Authority which is the government
agency with responsibility for promoting the rights of people with
disabilities in Ireland. My job title is ICT Accessibility Coordinator and I work primarily on the Excellence through Accessibility (EtA) award
scheme. This award scheme, to be launched hopefully this year, aims to
encourage government departments and the agencies under its remit to
improve the accessibility of its services. To learn more about the award, why not come to the "Web Accessibility Quality Marks in Europe seminar" on October 31 2005,
http://eaccess.rince.ie/events/2005/eaccess-marks-aug-2005/

In support of the EtA award NDA published the NDA IT Accessibility
Guidelines, http://accesit.nda.ie, in 2002. I am currently revamping
these guidelines to incorporate more guidance aimed at the people who need to know about web accessibility such as business managers, web developers and designers and content creators. I am also scoping out the
requirements for an on-line forum on web accessibility which will
(probably) be incorporated into the accessit.nda.ie site.

I run workshops on web accessibility for public sector organisation. These workshops have a stronger focus on how people with disabilities use the
web than on technical issues relating to accessibility. I assist
government departments and their agencies in any way I can to improve the accessibility of their websites. So if you work for one of these and want to improve the accessibility of your website, give me a call and we'll
have a chat.

I sit on the eAccessibility Expert Working Group which provides input on
the work o the e-Inclusion Unit in the EU DG "ICT for Citizens and
Businesses"
I recently formed, in partnership with the eInclusion Unit of the
Department of an Taoiseach, a pan-departmental Irish eAccessibility Group.

Background:
I am a recovering web developer having worked for a couple of years on
the oasis.gov.ie website and the Dublin City Public Libraries website
before that. I have a degree in Maths and English from UCD, a Grad. Dip. in IT from DCU and am currently doing a Masters of Science in Computing at GCD.

Personal info:
I have a beautiful little daughter called Gráinne. I live with her and my
fiancée in Aughrim, Co Wicklow.
I drive a big motorbike. (I am Wicklow's answer to Ewan McGregor).
I will be shouting for Clare against Cork this weekend. C'mon the Banner.
