eInclusion Fund

07.09.05 - Minister Kitt announces Call for Proposals from the
eInclusion
Fund.

The Minister for the Information Society, Tom Kitt, T.D., today
announced a
Call for Proposals for Information Society projects, specifically for
projects focussing on digital content and skills development in respect
of
older people and people with disabilities. The Minister said that he is
"targeting these groups because they have been shown, by statistics from
the
Central Statistics Office, to be late adopters in the Information
Society"
and that he "would like to encourage their participation."

The Minister is particularly looking for projects which increase
awareness
and relevance of ICTs, among late adopters, through the availability of
relevant content, and promote ICT skills development.

Minister of State Kitt announced the call during a visit to the Mobile
Computer Clubhouse, the "kit" for which was funded from the eInclusion
Fund
in 2004. The Taoiseach and Minister Dempsey also visited the Clubhouse.

The Computer Clubhouses, in Dublin's inner city and Blanchardstown, were
set
up to bring information and communications technology to young people
who
have left the education system early, and who would otherwise be
excluded
from the digital economy and the information society. The Mobile
Computer
Clubhouse is "kitted out" with PCs, printers and associated software and
will be visiting a number of areas in the suburbs of the city to assess
the
impact of the clubhouse concept in those areas.

Ends.
