Hi, all,

some may remember that around 18 months ago I attended the first part of the first World Summit on the Information society in geneva, Switzerland.

The second part of the same Summit takes place this month in Tunis, Tunisia. One part of the summit is called the global forum on Disability in the Information Society. I have been invited to speak at this on behalf of the European Disability forum, which represents around 50 million people with disabilities in europe. The Summit is organised by UNESCO and it is they who extended the invitation to the EDF. I will obviously get to take part in the rest of the Summit, which goes on for 3 days.

The kind of subjects I plan to cover are
* ICTs can be a disproportionate benefit or a disproportionate barrier to people with disabilities depending on how they are designed.
* Access to technology is a right
* Design for All
* Public bodies can gain great benefits from including the needs of people with disabilities
* International harmonisation of standards
* certification

The purpose of this email is two-fold.

1. Inform people about the event and the fact that I am taking part. I am lloking forward to it.

2. Asking if there are any glaring gaps in my list. Remember, this is for a world audience and my speaking time will be limited.

You might now understand why I can't make the open day in cork.

All that is left is for them to organise air tickets ... please ...

Take care,

Gerry Ellis
