[Irl-dean] WCAG 2.0 Working Draft

Hi,
I had dinner with Judy Brewer at the World summit in Tunis. Just her and me; very cosy <Grin>.
The problem with setting a final release date for version 2.0 is basically two-fold
1. Version 2.0 is dealing with a much wider range of technologies than version 1.0. Thus, it is in many ways more complicated.
2. Everyone recognises the problems that were associated with Version 1.0 in terms of its subjectivity in places and how difficult it was to understand and implement in others. The target is to make Version 2.0 easier to use.
This dichotomy between added complexity and a desire for ease of use leads to an enormous amount of discussion. I, for one, would rather see this discussion go on till a proper solution is agreed rather than rush something out that is half-baked. After all, many pieces of legislation refer specifically to Version 1.0 and will not change for a long time even if Version 2.0 were released tomorrow morning.
We didn't discuss it this time around, but I know from previous discussions with Judy that replacing the idea of A, double A and triple A compliance was also a mute point. I don't know where this now lies.
When will it be a final version? Pass!
Take care,
Gerry Ellis

If you don't know where you're going,
How will you know when you get there?
