Hi Gerry,
Thanks for pointing out the error.
You are correct that the centre for excellence in universal design should cover all aspects of design. However, we did want to emphasise the technological issues, as this is the main area of interest for Irl-Dean and our main area of expertise. I'll take another look at the document and clarify this, as well as looking at the international angle you mentioned. I feel that the centre should be focused mainly on Irish issues, but at the same time it will need to keep abreast of international developments.
All the best,
Hugh

Hi,
Your document says there are 5 areas of interest, then talks about 4.
Is IrlDean saying that the Centre should only concentrate on thecnological issues? whether intentional or not, it reads that way. Should Design for All or Universal Design not cover all aspects of design, including the built environment, transport, etc?
Another area worth mentioning would be maintaining and developing links with similar organisations abroad. These could include standards bodies, professional technology bodies like CEPIS or similar centres of excellence in other countries.
I hope these ideas help.
Take care,
Gerry Ellis

Hi everyone,
Here is the draft document on our recommendations for the Centre for Excellence based on all the contributions we have had on the issue on the mailing list and at the seminar. The draft can also be read on our website at the following address:
