Please see below this announcement of a one week course "Design for All in ICT" to be held from 17-21 July 2006 in London, UK:

The concept of 'Design for All' challenges the designer to take account of the needs of all possible users, and therefore enables the designer to create products which are functional, aesthetically pleasing and useable by as many people as possible,

"Design for All is the process of creating products, services and systems which are usable by people with the widest possible range of abilities, operating within the widest possible range of situations"

This module will provide an understanding of the needs of older and disabled people with respect to information and communication technologies (ICT) and knowledge of the legislation and standardisation around the world that requires software, hardware and electronic systems to be designed in an accessible way. It provides both theoretical knowledge and practical experiences of how to design systems including web accessibility, software and hardware.

This course is suitable for all designers and ICT professionals working in the areas of software, hardware or web design.

This course is supported by The Collaborative International Research Centre for Universal Access (CIRCUA), School of Computing Science which is the National Contact Centre for the UK branch of the European Design for All e-Accessibility Network (EDeAN).
