I find it surprising to come across such strong feeling about perceived
negativity of this list? Why is that?
If I was to have a stab at the question, for one thing email
communication is _very_ easy to misinterpret. Maybe I should say _very
_very_ or <em> very <em> or *very* ( you get the idea). It is therefore
very easy to get the wrong end of the stick or feel slighted or hurt or
misrepresented even at the smallest nuance. There are lots of reasons
for this; badly written mails, people just not thinking things through
before they write, or just being plain rude.. This is a fact. However,
I think we would be dreaming if we thought that we could
_always_/*always* have nice clean, mutually beneficial dialogue. The
fact is, it can get messy, we have all seen it on other lists and if its
not addressed communication breaks down and people don't bother any
more. Just to be clear, this is bad.

I would not like to see that happen here. This list is very valuable to
connect the accessibility community in Ireland together (please feel
free to correct me, and I hope I am not lumping anyone into a pot
against their will, its a loose definition) and I feel a lot of very
*good* work is done here; to clarify ideas, educate each other and all
those nice things.

So, lets be adult about this, there will be difference of opinion,
misinterpretation, argument and sometimes agreement. These are all parts
of the spectrum of human interaction.

There are also lots of lurkers here who (I hope) can benefit from the
list, I know I do - if I am in lurk mode on other lists, and even more
so when the discussion is heated. I hope the lurkers here will
contribute when they feel comfortable doing so (if they are not scared
off).

The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask etc and not everyone
will bite :)

Just to be clear. I can be wrong about a lot of stuff (oh, so wrong) but
I _never_ wish to upset or offend anyone. However, I may not always
_agree_ with any of you but I hope at the very _least_ that my argument
will be cogent and clear and you will, at least, understand why.

To put all this into perspective: This is a tiny obscure niche list for
a tiny county that is an island, off an island, off the coast of Europe.
So come on, I would urge you all to just make an effort and do your bit
rather than walking away before we really even get started.

Josh
