Hi Diarmad,

checked out your site and I'm very impressed with your Bettering the
World/Barretstown plegde.

Any particular accessibility issues with the site you feel are a priority on
aerlingus.com?

There was a talk at the IIA last month which Mark Magennis (CFIT) spoke at.
There was someone from a financial services company who I won't name as I
wasn't there so paraphrasing what he spoke on.

He basically said, in the "business world", while accessibility obviously
does provide value to the business and the customers who need it, it
provides no PR value. It's great to have it, but if you don't, there's not
much fuss about it. I suppose on the flipside, if everyone of your
competitors had an accessible website and you didn't, then there could be
potential negative PR.

I worked for another financial services company and tried to escalate
accessibility up the list on an operational risk management list, as a
compliance risk - Equal Status Act compliance.

Fears over compliance seem to be the only way that organisations start to
take it seriously. An analogy here is that accounting standards were a bit
iffy until Sarbanne Oxley (SOX) came in.

I'm starting to develop thoughts that perhaps a couple of legal precedents
wouldn't go amiss, as this would start to get accessibility firmly in the
minds of those that hold the purse strings
