[Irl-dean] meeting January 17th

Hi, Hugh,

I'll be there.

Here is how I understand the current situation:
* The CEUD was set up as a result of the Disability Act and is funded by the
irish Government.

* The role of National Contact Centre is a function of Irl-DeAN as the Irish
constituant of the European Design for All Network which was set up under
the eEurope initiative and is funded by Europe.

If Irl-DeAN gave up this role would it have any significant role left?

I think that this meeting on Thursday is vital to define what role, if any,
Irl-DeAN has into the future. This question was always going to arise from
the time that the CEUD was proposed. As the CEUD is made up of civil
servants (no insult intended) and has a far wider remit than Irl-DeAN has
pursued to date, would it be as open to its members' requirements as
Irl-DeAN? On the other hand, as it is Government funded, CEUD should be in a
better position to effect change than a small group like Irl-DeAN. I know,
like and respect the likes of Ger Craddock, Hugh O'Neill and Donal Rice, so
I know that they will do all in their power to ensure that any relationship
between both organisations will be to the maximum benefits of users like
most of us here.

Take care,

Gerry Ellis
