(14 January 2008)The International Journal on Electronic Markets has issued a call for papers for a focus issue on "Inclusive ICT Business". This issue will present a number of position papers in inclusive ICT business, and a number of research papers. The intention is to provide a reference set of papers for this emerging and exciting field. Potential topics include, but are not limited to: inclusive ICT design, ICT marketing to marginalized groups, the long tail, user-driven and open innovation, ICT for inter-regional solidarity in business cooperation, ICT in complex value chains for independent living (ageing population), ICT and incomplete or quasi-markets (semi-public services), ICT-enabled inclusive communities and creativity. Additional topic suggestions are welcome. All papers will be peer reviewed. Requirements and deadlines are at the Journal website. The first step to enter the process is the submission of an abstract to the Editorial Office (E-mail: editors at electronicmarkets.org) before the end of January 2008.

e-Skills are an essential tool in the implementation of the Lisbon agenda. As the Council of the European Union recently confirmed, new jobs depend on new ICT skills. As Member States move towards the development and implementation of their e-skills action plans, it is crucial that a close dialogue is held with industry to ensure they are put into practice effectively. The aim of the conference is to facilitate the definition of the long term e-skills strategies in the Member States, determine "flagship" projects and exchange best practice.

How can we address the challenges of when real-time multimedia inclusive technology meets electronic communications (Total Conversation) and Emergency Services to offer an accessible user experience ( e.g. "112 accessible for all"). The Commission intends to co-finance in the 2008 ICT-PSP programme a pilot on 'total conversation'. Contribute your ideas - hear what others are thinking. Issues can include: Delivery of accessibility by a multimedia service like Total Conversation; Technical, organisational and regulatory issues; Criteria for technology and solutions to realise Total Conversation and accessible Emergency Services for all groups of users; State of play in Europe and internationally; Opportunities for total conversation / emergency services deployment pilots validating innovation, interoperability, cost-effectiveness, and user acceptance.

The second International conference of ASK-IT marks the end of this EU research funded project. The conference will provide the opportunity to see and test the ASK-IT service and products that have been developed. It will also offer a unique occasion to different stakeholders, whether it be telecom providers, industry, user representatives, research institutes or local authorities, to gather together to discuss the role of Information Communication Technology in aiding and improving the everyday lives of mobility impaired people. The conference will welcome high level speakers and experts from around the world that will look at various issues, such as making content accessible, accessible tools and Ambient Intelligence, and will provide state-of-the-art information on accessibility initiatives in Europe and beyond.
