[Irl-dean] Aesthetics of non-visual web experience

I once read, in the context of a discussion about whether logos and
other graphics should be described in ALT text, a vision impaired
person talking about the importance to the user of getting the
"atmosphere" of a website. Sites generally want to have a certain
'atmosphere' in order to give an emotional impression. This might for
example be fresh, stylish, authoritative, dynamic, conservative,
friendly or patriotic. Visual design is one of the main means of
getting across these impressions. Logos are a particularly good
example - the 'dynamic' swoosh for instance. A good question is
therefore, "how can the impressions given by these visual elements
best be conveyed to a non-visual audience?".
