Magnification is a relatively new thing in many browsers and lack of 
this functionality would not be a show stopper for me - as long as the 
text resizes. Also Steve Faulkner wrote a blog post about Chrome that 
you may find interesting.[1]

My speculation about why Chrome does not work currently goes along the 
lines of Google hacked the WebKit API in order to port it to Windows and 
it just hasn't worked very well (thanks to Jason White for the info on 
the GAWDS/WAI IG list). The page content is just not getting passed via 
the API to the Assistive Technology.
