I was thinking of situations where you know that the information or
functionality is somewhere on the website but you wouldn't expect it
to be on the home page itself, so what you need to find is a link to
get you closer to that information and you don't need to know what
else is on the home page. To take an example, yesterday I went to the
Dublin Marathon home page looking for three bits of information - the
cost of entry, the deadline for entries and a route map of the course.
I wouldn't expect any of this to be on the home page and I was right,
it wasn't. But there are links on the home page to Entry Details and
General Info.
I would have thought this to be the vast majority of cases but maybe
I'm wrong. You would know better than me because it's probably
difficult for me to judge how often and how much of a home page I
usually 'read' before following a link.
