[CEUD-ICT] Adapted mobile phone services

Hi,

Changing subject line.

I've heard of blind people taking pictures of things like cans of beans
and sending them to a sighted person to confirm that it is indeed beans
and not tinned tomatoes.

Of course, that has been somewhat superceeded by the k-nfb reader. This
is a scanning package developed in conjunction with Kurzweil Technologies
and the National Federation of the Blind in the US. It takes a photo of a
document and converts it into speech. Documents can be saved and copied
to other devices if necessary.

Tim

Subject: Re: [CEUD-ICT] WebAIM Screen reader survey results

Hi All:

I am looking for examples of any mobile phone service being used or
adapted by pwd's in ways that were unexpected (not thought of as
considered in the original design) to help them improve their level of
independent living or mobility.

Not the best example -

An intellectually disabled person taking their photo in a mirror and
forwarding to a carer for their "confirmation that they are suitably
dressed".

Thanks
