[CEUD-ICT] Accessible photo gallery

Hi Donal

I've been looking for the same thing myself and the best I've found so far
(based on criteria of accessibility, cross-browser support, and lean coding)
is:

   - with JavaScript:
   http://www.tjkdesign.com/articles/gallery/photo_gallery.asp
   - without JavaScript: http://www.cssplay.co.uk/menu/lightbox-click.html

None of the automated server-side/CMS solutions I've reviewed have come
close to being accessible.

I'm currently trying to adapt these approaches to use purely CSS and mark-up
only as I'm not 100% happy with:

JavaScript Version
a) the no-script alternative is poor to say the least (most of the
JavaScript solutions suffer here)
b) lack of keyboard support (again, common issue)
c) the additional download overhead involved in having scripts (I confess to
being a bit of a speed freak when it comes to page-loading times)
Non JS Version
d) does not work well on Chorme and v badly on Safari

To make things interesting part of my spec is that the gallery must work
inside a liquid-layout website.  Very few of the solutions out there take
this into consideration.  The additional CSS positioning required is
relatively straight forward, but getting a solution that is has decent
usability on low-res screens is an issue - finding space for a group of
thumbnails and a large image.

If I get it perfected (or close to) I'll post some code and drop a link back
on this list.

Sorry I can't offer a finished solution right now, but maybe someone else on
the list is closer to, or has a working version.
