[CEUD-ICT] CEUD-ICT Digest, Vol 9, Issue 7

Hi Gerry,
You've probably accessed most of these already, but in case not.
Firstly, the CEUD website has some case study examples at
http://universaldesign.ie/exploreampdiscover/casestudiesandexamples, which I
guess you have already through the link with Donal. And see
http://universaldesign.ie/exploreampdiscover/benefitsanddrivers#bus for a
list of potential benefits.
Also, John Clarkson and the Engineering Design Centre in Cambridge have
presented a lot of information on the "business case" for UD. Their online
Inclusive Design Toolkit (see http://www.inclusivedesigntoolkit.com)
summarises some of this. In particular the section on "why do inclusive
design" at the following link
http://www.inclusivedesigntoolkit.com/betterdesign/why/. Look at the company
case and the project case sections.
The Centre for Universal Design in North Carolina State University has a
number of business cases at the following link
http://www.design.ncsu.edu/cud/projserv_ps/projects/pscsud.htm.
The EDEAN website has some interesting information at the following link
http://www.education.edean.org/index.php?filters=f7.
A number of papers have been written by the researcher Hua Dong looking into
the business case of inclusive design, mainly in collaboration with the RCA,
Helen Hamlyn Centre and the Cambridge Engineering Design Centre. Some of her
papers can be found using the Google Scholar search engine.
The British Standard "BS7000-6 Guide to managing inclusive design" is a
useful reference for you. The NDA has a printed version of this in their
library. I have electronic access as a member of TCD library, but cannot
distribute it unfortunately. If you require electronic access to the PDF
version of the standard, and are affiliated with a library, check that the
library has BSI membership.
This is all I can think of for now.
All the best,
Antoinette
