As reported in this morning's Guardian:

There is an announcement on the amazon.co.uk home page also; but
it is in the form of a letter from Jeff Bezos, presented as a
scanned image ... though, to be fair, the full text has been
included in the alt attribute. Not sure if that would meet
everybody's notion of a "short" text equivalent (360 words), but
it does sort of "show willing", I guess. Accessibility of the
kindle itself is, of course, a completely different matter. Here
