IEEE may be unhappy to hear that lol. The relevance of any standard
depends on your domain of interest, its level of adoption. Standards are
a way of moving beyond "De facto" standards, or in other words
proprietary - "We build it so, we set the standard for better or for
worse" - to the time consuming and murky world of collaboratively
developing something that everyone can work with.
