Dear Friends and Colleagues -

Please find below (and attached, in MS-Word format) an invitation
to a forthcoming consultation event in relation to a training
curriculum in "Universal Design" for ICT professionals.

The consultation is a joint activity of the Centre for Universal
Design at the NDA, the e-Access lab of RINCE (a DCU National
Research Centre), and the NSAI.

I hope you will agree that this is a potentially very useful
development, and we would very much appreciate the widest
possible participation in the event.

The Centre for Excellence in Universal Design in conjunction with RINCE at
Dublin City University wishes to invite you to a consultation meeting on a
CEN Workshop Agreement on "Curriculum for training ICT professionals in
Universal Design".

A CEN Workshop Agreement (CWA) on  Curriculum for training Professionals in
Universal Design, chaired by the Centre for Excellence in Universal Design,
is currently developing guidelines for use by anyone in industry looking to
educate ICT professionals in the Universal Design approach.  This document
specifies courses in Universal Design aimed at ensuring a high-quality,
comprehensive training plan that meets industry needs.

A consultation meeting to provide interested parties in Ireland with the
opportunity to input into these draft guidelines will be held in DCU on
March 19th.   Speakers will include experts in the areas of Universal
Design, standards development and Continuous Professional Development
training from DCU, NSAI, the Irish Computer Society and the Centre for
Excellence in Universal Design.

You are encouraged to download and read the guidelines in advance and fill
out the feedback form in advance of the meeting.  Meeting attendees will
also have an opportunity to present their feedback during the meeting.

Consultation: Curriculum for training ICT professionals in
Universal Design

Universal Design aims to design ICT products and services so they
can be used by the widest range of people possible, regardless of
a person’s age, environment, ability or disability. It aims to
develop technology that is robust and can be used on different
platforms or in different contexts of use, as well as being
usable by users with different skills.  In order for ICT industry
to adopt Universal Design principles, methods and solutions, the
professionals involved will need to acquire the necessary
knowledge and skills. This is a crucial condition for an
effective, as well as economic change in management and
production process in the ICT industry.

Further information:

Who should attend?  Anyone interested in the ICT industry interested in
learning about Universal Design.

Attendees are asked to read the guidelines in advance and prepare
feedback using the CEN template. All feedback will be acknowledged in
the final draft.

Feedback can also be provided by following the instructions on the NSAI
website.

European Committee for Standardization (CEN) provides a platform for the
development of European Standards and other technical specifications. A
CEN Workshop Agreement is a consensus-based specification, drawn up in
an open Workshop environment.

This meeting is an ad-hoc activity of the ICT subgroup of the Access for
All Standards Consultative Committee of the NSAI.

The CWA on UD Prof is due be finalised and published in Autumn 2010.

all documentation is provide in MS Word and PDF formats.  Please let us
know if any of this content is inaccessible to you.  The Working group
continues to raise the accessibility of the chosen CEN formats with the
CEN management centre.
