Hi All,
thanks again for the lively discussion on this topic. It certainly helped
me focus on the issues and pit falls.
As it happen, I have been asked by the Irish Internet Associations Social
Media Working Group to give a quick 15 minute overview on making online
audio and video accessible to all. the half day seminar called "Audio
Video Culture: Behind the Scenes of audio and video content online" will
take place next Thursday afternoon. [1]
As usual I need a bit of help tying to decipher what the best resources
out there are to base the presentation on and provide as references. Can
anyone point me to 'good' resources on making video and audio accessible
online. Types of resources I am researching are:
1. Primers providing an overview of the issues and accessibility issues
typically encountered
2. Examples of good practice of audio description. extended text
transcripts, captioning
3. Technical guidance on how to create and embed AD, ETT and captions,
what file types and players to use
4. online blogs and forums that cover this kind of stuff
Below you will find what my initial trawl has produced.
All donations gratefully received. I will make the final presentation and
lists of resources available on the www.universaldesign.ie website for all
to use.

Hum ... no different for me though. There is now an "embed"
element within the "object" - not sure if that was there
before. But anyway, this embed still seems to specify a windows
media player plugin, it still doesn't work on my ubuntu linux +
firefox, and, much more to the point, there are no other
fallbacks - specifically, no plain text content, and no link to a
transcript. (And they have the gall to stick a "WAI-AAA" logo -
sic! - at the bottom: talk about debasing the currency...)
Best - Barry.
