Subject: Re: [CEUD-ICT] 4G of accessible buildings

Hi all,

Is anyone aware of any particularly innovative accessible public buildings (or places) in Ireland?? I've to say a few words at a seminar in Norway on the 4G of accessible public buildings - which I take to mean beyond bricks and mortar, where technology takes over. So if anyone has any nuggets I'd be pleased to hear of them.

Regarding the Sign 4 Me - I'm aware of a Japanese convention centre where animated figures are used on screens to sign messages from the control room to anyone stuck in the lift, as well as to sign announcements around the building. Not sure if it uses japanese sign language or the equivalent of Manually Coded English.

Regards,

Fionnuala

Interesting. Great idea, though given the proliferation of sign languages around the world I wonder to what extent it would be useful for, say, people here in Ireland. From what I gather, it's not a sign language routinely used by deaf people (or Deaf people) to communicate like Irish Sign Language, but a form of Manually Coded English (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manually_Coded_English#Signed_English) which is quite different.
